TekLink

TekLink is client-side software. Downloadable from our the online helpdesk, TekLink is a part of TekOffice software suite and is responsible for quicker, easier and more effective computer support process. Installed on the remote computers, TekLink allows the users access TekDesk, the online helpdesk, in a single click.

The TekLink software application includes the following modules:

  • TekRemote allows the support technicians to provide IT support via Internet using the screen-sharing technology. This feature can be used for faster remote resolution of computer problems and remote training.
  • TekCheck collects the relevant PC information on its configuration and the software installed on it. This operation greatly aids the troubleshooting process by supplying the relevant diagnostic information to the support team.
  • TekUpdate allows the users download and install TekLink updates automatically or on demand.

TekLink is an entirely safe and reliable program. Supported end-users have full control over its usage and all actions are performed only upon their explicit consent.

TekRemote is a screen sharing modules incorporated into our TekLink tool. It allows the support technician see the supported computer's screen remotely over the Internet and share its mouse and keyboard. This way the technician can solve the problem without going into lengthy explanations guiding the user. The support representatives cannot launch the screen sharing until the user on the other end grants them an explicit permission to do so. The assisted user can always stop a screen sharing session simply by pressing the Ctrl + Break key combination. The remote diagnostics request is also executed after explicit permission of the user of the computer and is totally transparent and secure.

All the modules of TekLink work on corporate intranets. The software uses standard ports used for general access to the Internet to connect to the remote helpdesk. The Internet settings are automatically detected by TekLink during the normal installation process. So users that work from behind a corporate firewall or a proxy server can use TekLink.

In case the end-users are using a personal firewall, we recommend making sure that the use of the required ports is not blocked and/or TekLink modules are added to the safe list.2

In order to take the full advantage of the TekLink capabilities, the supported PCs should meet the following system requirements:

  • Operating System:
  • Windows 98 SE, Windows NT 4.0 with Service pack 4 or higher, Windows 2000, Windows XP

  • Web Browser:
  • Internet Explorer 4.0 and higher3

  • Online mode:
  • Internet access with correct firewall settings

  • Modem speed:
  • The minimum required speed for screen sharing session is recommended 28.8-33.6 Kbps; the optimum speed for screen sharing session is 56.6 kbps and higher.

1 The corporate network administrator may need to enable use of certain ports in the corporate firewall (usually it is not required, because they are open by default) and provide the necessary settings to the end-users (usually it is not needed, because the settings are detected automatically during the installation process) in order for TekLink™ to work on the network.

2 Disabling certain personal firewalls temporarily may be required during the troubleshooting process.

3 IE versions earlier than 4.0 do not match our system requirements. If the supported users use Netscape Navigator 4.08 or Netscape Communicator 6.0, they might experience problems accessing the online helpdesk.
